Gordon Fiddler

Gordon Fiddler was born in Cochenour, Ontario in 1958. Originally from Sandy Lake First Nation. Gordon is a Residential School Survivor, in the early 60’s. He was sent to Macintosh Boarding School for 3 years.

Gordon started painting at an early age and eventually evolved to painting traditional Anishinaabe images. Inspired by Carl Rae, Gordon studied with Cecil Youngfox, Mel Medahbee and many others.

Gordon has exhibited his art at Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, The Canadian Gallery in Vancouver and various private and public art galleries around the world.

Gordon and Rolf Bouman met in 2018 through their mutual friend, the late Jay Bell Redbird, after which time Gordon joined the Friends United Initiative. Gordon has been and is inspiring other First Nations artists and much of his work can be viewed at the Friends United International Convention Centre at Kempt Road. Gordon and Rolf are trying together to carry on Jay Bell Redbird’s legacy along with Jay’s spouse Halina Stopyra by exhibiting their artwork and conveying the messages of First Nations to the world.
