The Art of Kathy Denny
Kathy Denny’s paintings show a broad artistic range, from carefully observed portraits to colourful compositions centred on animals and symbolic imagery. Works featured by Friends United include portraits of Chief Norman Bernard and Ben Sylliboy, as well as paintings incorporating loons, a lobster, a Thunderbird and a Killer Whale.
Across these works, strong colour and clearly defined forms give each composition an immediate visual presence while allowing individual subjects and stories to remain at the centre.
Work and Legacy
Kathy Denny’s artistic journey began at the age of ten, when her sister, the late artist Mary Rose Julian, gave her a painting kit and encouraged their mother to enrol her in art classes. She continued developing her skills through further art instruction, including studies with Professor Barry Gabriel at Cape Breton University.
Painting has remained an important part of her life for decades. In May 2024, after 49 years of painting experience, Kathy Denny joined the Friends United family, bringing a body of work that includes portraiture, animal imagery and highly colourful compositions.
